Alarm Monitoring-No Landline Needed
Posted on 16. Apr, 2010 by admin in Home Alarm
A burglar alarm system together with alarm monitoring is a great way to keep a home protected and serves as an excellent burglary deterrent. Monitored alarm systems also act as the eyes and ears on a home when the homeowner is away for any amount of time. Whether at work or away on a trip, alarm monitoring offers peace of mind knowing someone is watching out for the home when they are not there to.
Alarm monitoring is an invaluable service that has been provided by home and business security companies for many years. Millions of homes and businesses today are protected by a monitored security system, with more choosing to add this service to their security plan every single day. This is because alarm monitoring works and has been proven to be one of the best burglary deterrents out today.
The concept of alarm monitoring is simple. Once a user arms their monitored alarm system, any alarm signal from that point on will notify the alarm monitoring center. For example, if a burglar tries to enter through a protected area of the home, they will trip the alarm system, that signal will dial the monitoring center, and appropriate action will be taken.
There are many commercials out today showing a burglar breaking into a home, the alarm trips, the phone rings, and it is the alarm monitoring company calling to see if the owner is OK and asks for a password. This is how standard alarm monitoring works. If a homeowner is not home to answer and give a password or let the monitoring center know it is a false alarm, the next call is usually to the police and/or other emergency contacts.
Alarm monitoring is highly effective when used over a standard POTS line (plain old telephone service) or landline. However, over the years more families have turned to other means of phone service in their homes like VoIP home phone service, cellular phone service, or no home phone service at all. A monitored alarm, as noted, needs some way to communicate with the alarm monitoring center.
While some home security companies may claim to offer 100% compatibility with VoIP phone service with their alarm systems, it is strongly advised not to trust it. VoIP phone service is not a reliable way for alarm signals to transmit to monitoring centers.
There is a way to achieve alarm monitoring though without a phone line. The service is called cellular alarm monitoring. This form of alarm monitoring is a fast and effective way to have an alarm monitored without the need of a phone line.
A cellular radio is installed in the home and when an alarm is tripped, a signal will transmit through the cellular radio to the monitoring company. The action is similar to picking up a cellular phone and dialing a phone number. Instead of the alarm system needing a standard phone line to dial the alarm monitoring center, it uses the cellular radio to do so.
Cellular alarm monitoring is one of the latest and greatest ways to have an alarm monitored. With so many home security companies offering this form of alarm monitoring at low and competitive rates, it doesn’t make sense for any home to go without it.
